Many interviewers ask questions like “Tell me about a time you solved a difficult problem.” Use the STAR method to structure your answer:
- S — Situation: Briefly describe the context
- T — Task: What was your responsibility?
- A — Action: What did you specifically do?
- R — Result: What was the outcome? (Use numbers or specifics where possible)
Example:
“At my previous job, a supplier delayed a delivery [Situation]. I was responsible for keeping the project on schedule [Task]. I contacted two backup suppliers and negotiated an expedited order [Action]. We received the materials only two days late instead of two weeks, and the client was satisfied [Result].”
