This is the short paragraph just 2–3 sentences that sits at the top of your CV, right below your contact details. It is often the only part an employer reads in full before deciding whether to continue. It needs to work hard.
The formula:
[Who you are professionally] + [your key strength or experience] + [what you’re aiming to offer]
Example — entry-level:
“Recent graduate with a Diploma in Business Administration from Cullen University College, skilled in customer service and basic bookkeeping. Seeking to bring strong organizational skills and a proactive attitude to an entry-level administrative role.”
Example — experienced professional:
“Procurement professional with 4 years’ experience managing supplier contracts and tender processes in the mining sector. Known for reducing costs through effective negotiation. Looking to bring this expertise to a growing logistics team.”
Avoid:
- Vague filler like “Hardworking and dedicated individual seeking opportunities” — it says nothing specific about you
- Generic statements copy-pasted across every application — always tailor this to the job
